Buyer Beware: Lingo Plugs

Nothing is more frustrating than find a cool little travel gadget only to get ripped off. This one, Lingo Plugs looked promising, being able to translate over 144 languages nearly instantly with GenAI. The videos looked well made, the features show were very nice, but it was too good to be true.

Let me be clear, what I ordered from the site and what was shipped were very different. What was advertised and what was delivered are even more so.

This is what is shown, quality head sets, a travel case, and as advertised, built in AI.

This is what I received.

These are low quality, ear phones. There is no built in AI (and there was no travel case). The ear phones have decent sound as I can pair them to listen to music or podcasts like any regular headphones. But when I downloaded the APP which was not included, not spoken of on any of the advertising videos, and not documented in the “headphone documentation” (since these are just regular headphones). The fact that I had to reach out to get the link was disappointing, but more disappointment followed as even though they are already paired, the app requires you to add the device and no code (pairing or otherwise) is given. All the prompts on the headphones are in Chinese and unlike other headphones I have, there is no place to change them to English (or bad English). I tried to “pair” or “Add Device” with a set of known headphone that I use a lot. It too prompted for a code and no code was given across the pair or one the screen to accept. This is just very bad design.

Speaking of the app, I want to share with you too that if I had seen the app first, before I made my purchase, I would have thought more about it (which maybe is why they hide it).

They have 422 ratings as of this posting, and the majority are bad. The ones that are not bad appear to be written by an AI or by a paid spokesperson. The real ones are bad reviews and there are many more of those than of good ones.

Finally, the free travel case is free because it was never received. The shipping package was a flimsy plastic envelope, nothing more. This left little protection and as you can see by the picture, the boxes they came in were crushed and bent and well, nothing protected at all.

To be clear, I am very unhappy with this purchase of over $75 (I ordered a set for my wife and a set for me). They claim to do refunds and I want a refund. I am preparing for an overseas trip (which was going to be a test of these). I am sure not going to pack them (every ounce or kg counts).

Considering my order number (71xxx ) and supposing that all each order was just a single unit, their sales would be over $3.5 million USD from the date of my order. Do not buy these Lingo plugs.
